Boo! and happy 5 months to you!!!

Happy 5 months today little M!!! Here he is in a little halloween outfit I made with a bat on the front and spiderweb fabric as cuffs and a pocket.



The last month in review:
- Maddox has been sleeping on his side since 10/4. He sleeps on his left side only, but can roll to his right too.
- He puts his foot in his mouth now.
- We are working on trying to sit in the tripod position, but he's not quite there yet.
- He loves to be kissed on his neck. It makes him giggle alot!
- He's already started a little with separation anxiety. He'll often cry a little when he sees me walk away and this is at home. I'm pretty sure Lake didn't do anything remotely like that until he was closer to 1.
- And thankfully, he hasn't been sick yet other than being a little snorty here and there. We did have our first sick doctor's visit just a week or so ago though. Long story short, I think he had some weird reaction to changing formulas and vomited 6 times. It was enough of a concern for me to have the doctor see him because this wasn't just a little spit-up. This was all over the place, choking on it kind of vomiting. Sorry for the graphic detail, but it was one of the scariest things that has happened. I heard him in the pack and play struggling to get his breath and found him covered in it coming from all places and scooped him up and turned him over so fast I don't remember even running to it. Anyway, he was happy by the time we got to the doctor's office of course and didn't have fever so just chalk it up to a very strange incident.

Gama and Pop Pop

I came across this picture from "Gama" and "Pop Pop's" trip last week. Lake is really starting to identify his grandparents and trying to say their names. These have stuck for Jeff's parents. Since my side is already named (with 2 nephews and a niece already), it was fun that Lake is the first call them their names. He's still a stubborn 2 year old and will only say them when he wants, but he identifies with them now which is important since we don't live close to any of the grandparents.

My most fun project yet!

The hippo backpack!!! I'm not sure what the obsession I have with hippos is (and owls for that matter), but I decided to make Maddox a backpack for his bottles to take to preschool. I got all of the pieces ready and then had to wait for the monogrammed piece to be finished (no, I don't have a monogram machine, yet), but I finally sat down and finished it yesterday. It actually was really fun to design and put together. Given my self-taught, no pattern, impatient sewing technique, I was really happy with how durable it appears to be. Lake insisted on me taking his backpack off of him and putting Maddox's on this morning. I think he just wanted to try the new one out. His Aunt Susie bought him an adorable Stephen Joseph backpack for his birthday that he loves.

Another petting farm?

Yes, we decided to go to another petting farm this past weekend since Jeff's parents were in town. However, this was a real farm, not a just some animals caged in to feed and pet. It was fa-reezing!! But it was a really beautiful farm and really cool way to see the animals. You walked through their little living quarters and everything. They had everything from bunnies, alpacas, to mini horses and cows that you could pet. I don't feel like putting together a storyboard so you're just getting a few individuals pictures!

Big Boy

Jeff and I made a spur of the moment decision to put Lake in a big bed. We knew we wanted to put Lake in a big bed before Christmas, but for some reason, decided to just go ahead and do it...that day!! He's been in the bed since 10/11 and so far so good. It took a little while for him to not get so upset when we first put him down, but he seems to be fine now. I think he was a little scared at first or just upset by the change. He hasn't once dared to get out of the bed after we've left the room...knock on wood!

Here are some pictures. I had planned to make the bedding...out of necessity, not because it was fun! I'm determined to have cute little boy stuff and it's just hard to find it in stores without paying hundreds!

Here was the inspiration by Serena and Lily. It went well with all of the stars and colors we already have in the room. Note the prices, that's not even including sheets, inserts, shams, etc.


My version...
I hadn't finished the shams at first so the ones to the right show them and the "L" pillow I made to match. I couldn't get a good angle to get the whole star in the picture. It was by far the most complex part of the process. It had to be perfectly shaped and I'm quite proud I actually got it to be from a little 2 inch star model! At some point, I'll do something fun with the sheets, but I'm over it for now! I was even going to be fancy and sew a decorative stitch on the star or rope on the outside, but the decorative stitch needed way to much thread and the rope, well, let's just say I was pretty irritated at the fabric store when I couldn't find the red I wanted. So a basic red straight stitch it was!

Enough of the chit-chat...

No Way!

Lake has been doing this thing for more than two weeks now that instead of saying no, everything is emphatically, "no way!" At first, I just assumed he got it from preschool. Then this week I asked and they said he's the only one that says it. I started thinking where he could have possibly got that from, and then it hit me, me!!! When he's really doing something he's not supposed to, I'll say "no way, I don't think so" (boy, I sound like a mom don't I? :) )

In this video, I knew he wasn't ready to get down which would solicit this response...

Brothers Playing

I'm so behind on posts that I had planned to post so I'm going to just post like 4 today. I was pretty much sick the last month with something that eventually turned into a sinus infection and then we had family in town. Anyway, without further delay...

Lake for the most part doesn't pay much attention to Maddox, but sometimes, Maddox seems to just crack him up. Here are two videos, one where Maddox is kicking his feet and Lake thinks is hilarious and the other dancing to the songs on the exersaucer. Laugh laughed for like 15 minutes when Maddox kept kicking. Lake is sweet though to him and will bring his burp cloths or blankets to him. He even tells him to sit down in his bouncer when he wants to play some more.

Pumpkins and Ponies

We visited a pumpkin farm this weekend which had a petting zoo, hayride, ponies, and a bungee thing for kids. The bungee was Lake's favorite as you can tell by the pictures.

Just because

4 Months!

Maddox was 4 months on Monday. Again with that time thing!!! Anyway, he had his checkup yesterday and everything is great. Just some minor things to pay attention to like slight torticollis on his left side. Apparantly he must be favoring that side in certain positions, but I haven't noticed it. It must be really slight, but she can tell his left cheek is a little smaller from it. And like Lake, his tone is a little lax, but again, very minor. Apparantly, that's just the way my babies are! Last, since we supplement with formula, we are going to move over to soy to see if it will help with the eczema. It's AWFUL and we battle it everyday with all kinds of oils, washes, etc. Lake had a milk protein allergy and went to soy and I suspect Maddox's is an allergy and just showing itself differently. Apparantly the doctor suspects so as well.

Lake was 25.5 in and 16.9 lbs for comparision. (He was in the 90% for weight - big boy)

Shots: two and hated them more than I've ever seen Lake get upset with them. I swear it seemed like he held his breath for minutes before letting out an awful cry. I blew in his face on the second one so he would breathe quicker!
