"Happos are happy"

This is a silly phrase that Jeff has taught Lake and he now repeats. I've mentioned before that Lake calls hippos "happos" and Jeff has continued to call them that for fun.

Maddox is 3 months old today!

Maddox is such a happy baby it seems. His fascination this month...hands and feet. He's noticed both and will stick his leg out and look at his foot. It's pretty funny. I don't remember Lake doing that. Also, I've heard him laugh!! Now, I can't get him to of course, but it's definately a laugh. I dismissed it the first time thinking it was just a gurgle or something. Then he did it again later that day and a few days after. Apparantly, laying him down on the couch to swaddle is quite funny. He's already starting to drool and he's also discovered his car seat toys and will grab and bat at them. Big brother Lake is trying to help him learn to hold onto things by putting them in his hands. (Lake likes to try to give him his snacks and puzzle pieces and doesn't quite understand why he won't take them).

We're down to 5 feedings (have been for a while) and he's about to move up to 2 diapers! He's in that in between stage right now.

Dates:
8/13 - laughed and around the same time started batting at things

Check out my new favorite hobby on his onesies - appliques! I have many more to make.

Poo

If talking about poo offends you, don’t read any further. And no, I’m not talking about “pooh” as in Winnie the Pooh. Besides the number of times a day and what color and consistency all moms keep a mental track of, poo provides comic relief in our household. I was inspired to write this post after an incident this morning. Maddox was sitting in my lap after a nice lunch and started innocently grunting. The grunting itself is quite hysterical on its own. The face turns red, holding his breath, and making the funniest faces. I keep saying I want to get this on video. Anyway, he was grunting away and then poo exploded onto my leg. I actually heard a pop sound from it coming out of the diaper. Now, starts the balance of cleaning without making things worse. I hold the baby out, slightly tilted as to not let more come out of the diaper. I stand up with one leg bent forward to keep the poo sliding down and onto the carpet, and I carefully make my way to the changing table in that position and lay the baby down. There, I’ve confined the damage to one area at this point. Now the undressing…for me that is. It was so bad I had to wipe my leg first before I could take the pants off. Now I’m poo free…for now. Onto the baby. This is the really delicate process. You have many obstacles you are about to have to overcome. The baby is now happy, wanting to play, kick, and flail his arms all around. You stop the bleeding by damming the area of breakthough with wipes (that’s after you clean the leg). Then you roll-up the onesie to prevent smearing up the back. Sometimes, that one cannot be avoided given the position of the poo. You go for the diaper removal part. I lean over to get to work and the strings that tie on my shirt fall into it! Seriously, are you kidding me? Now I have to take my shirt off before I get it on more places. Back to work and now his little flailing hands are getting dangerously close to it. After many wipes, finally the area is clear and time to take the onesie off...very carefully. He looks at me and is smiling like this is the best thing ever. What do you do with that? You can’t be mad so you just laugh and smile back to the sweetest thing you’ll ever know, your baby. I’m not sure the khaki capri pants will recover from the incident, but who cares in the end right? The baby is now redressed, all just to repeat again another day I’m sure! I texted Jeff to tell him I just got “seriously pooed on” and he replies, “Yes!”. As you can tell, he was quite happy to hear this as just a few days earlier he was holding Lake and a similar incident occurred.

I don’t want to leave pee out either. Especially with baby boys. The pee fountains that go everywhere and on everything and I’ll never forget the first week we brought Lake home and he kept soaking everything. No one had told me to point it down!!! He literally was peeing out of his diaper. Also, there’s nothing like going into Lake’s room to get him first thing in the morning. He’s so excited to see you with giggles and squeals. A few weeks back, I went to get him and he was laying there, on his tummy, head on pillow and blanket covering him. He sees me and pops up wanting me to pick him up. I happily grab and hug him. And then, I feel wet all over my shirt. He was soaked in the front from shirt down his shorts. How did he have this much pee on him? He was just laying there, all snuggly and innocent! The hug was still worth it!

While I know we are no where close to leaving these days behind us with a 3 month old and 2 year old (I don’t even want to know what potty training has in store for us), I know one day I’ll forget all of this…thus the poo post!

Sorry baby boys, but you are full of it!

Happy Birthday Sweet Baby!

We've had a fun weekend playing at the play gym Friday, then hanging out and playing Saturday, and birthday cake and presents today! Lake hasn't felt very well with a cold, but we still had fun. Lake is really into cars and rolling them around on everything and everyone (apparantly legs and arms act as roadways). The toys with cars were the biggest hit today! He would have been happy with only one present because we couldn't get him to open anymore after that!

Lake at 2:
My sweet 2 year old will only give me kisses right before bed. He sings on his own, he will put his finger in Maddox's hand for Maddox to grab since he's grasping things now, he tells you to "sit" and points when he wants you to play on the floor with him, he says "oh no" when the pacifier falls out of Maddox's mouth and will put it back in, and last, he eats with spoons/forks solely left-handed right now.

Party # 1

We had a birthday party for Lake today at preschool. As with almost everything these days, it didn't go without a little drama. Lake was still asleep when I got there (so going on 2.5 hrs which he never does at school). He was the last one still down. The teacher woke him and he was not happy. After I finally got him to sit in the chair and he realized there was food, things settled down. Well, for a few minutes until he was well on his way to eating all of the icing and I took Elmo alway. I had some extra batter so I made an Elmo cake for him and the other kids got cupcakes with 2's on them. I tried to substitute Elmo for a cupcake, but Lake wasn't having it. Lake was the only one who wouldn't wear the hat either. I'll say he enjoyed most of his party anyway! Life with a 2 year old! We'll celebrate his actual birthday Sunday. We're just having a little family celebration this year. After today, I think that is probably a very good idea!

Faffles and buebies?

If you can't decipher the title, that's actually waffles and blueberries in Lake speak. As I mentioned recently, Lake is saying so many new words everyday now. He told me tonight to "come on" and did the hand motion with it. He really gets mad if you don't do what he says too. He tries to physically move you if you don't jump up. He always wants to play "I get you". That's when you chase him or he chases you around the kitchen. He also started pretending like Maddox's hair was poking him when he touched it and will jump and make a noise like it did. And last, as you can see in the picture below, he thinks it's so funny to close his eyes and walk. Silly little boy...
