happy halloween!

we went to boo at the zoo and had lots of fun trick-or-treating! We were superheroes this year! Batman and Super Maddox!

Pumpkin Farm

Lake...lately

- we are often told "you're my best friend". He can quickly take that back when you tell him something he doesn't like though.
- he came home saying the entire Pledge of Allegiance on 10/6. Perfectly
- when he asks for something, he'll often say "may you get me ....". It's pretty cute.
- he saw our wedding picture and asked me if I was a princess.
- he sneaks into our room and falls asleep in our bed after we put him down. we hear little feet running above us when he does.
- he loves puzzles
- he's learning to read and write. he's been able to write his name for a few months now. and he's definitely left-handed. but seems to be right-handed when it comes to sports.
- he is so big now. most size 4 clothes will fit him but he needs size 5 from certain stores.
- when he is tired, watch out. he becomes totally irrational. straight to bed it is!
- when he is getting tired, if he's standing, he'll say his leg hurts. If he's sitting, he'll say he doesn't feel good. this is pretty routine now. so if his leg ever really hurts or he doesn't feel good, he better have a fever or something!
- He's becoming more sensitive to comments. Like teasing and stuff. Playful teasing will sometimes hurt his little feelings. I've noticed some of this at school too like about silly things...one girl kept telling him to be quiet or something and had kept doing it because it was bothering him. When he saw me walk in, he immediately burst into tears and started crying to me about it.
- we got him a big boy bike recently. does a pretty good job with it!
- he is so sweet and especially at bedtime. Always wants you to sleep with him or lie there and hold his hand while he falls asleep. He always has such a sweet little smile on his face.

I adore both of my little boys!

little maddox

he certainly keeps us entertained!

- when he's proud of himself, like he threw something away, he'll say, "I did it!". -- he must have all boo boos kissed before they are better...even the invisible ones.
- He and Lake terrorize the dog every morning when they come down. They chase her and squeal as loud as they can. Poor girl, she's pretty old now.
- He still LOVES books. Loves them!
- He's been singing Baa Baa Black Sheep randomly lately. He must have learned it at preschool.
- He went through the "terrible" part of the twos pretty quickly. He's a pretty good listener now, but I still avoid stores with the kids if I can help it! I had to take them in Publix together recently. No kid carts with steering wheels so they both walked. Maddox touched everything, but he didn't throw a tantrum on the positive side!
- He practically changes his own diaper now. Well, not really but he'll take it off and throw it away before bath. He knows what to do on the potty but I'm procrastinating on potty training.
- He learned to ride his tricycle in the past month.
- He's a cuddler. Even his teachers' will say this. If he doesn't want to lie down right away after we read our books, he'll immediately flip over and lay on my shoulder and snuggle. That buys him a few more minutes anyway! and he still sleeps with about 4 blankets and 6 stuffed animals.

in the past month...

1. I found this little guy asleep, behind his toy box, on top of 3 blankets - fyi, scared me to death when he was nowhere in sight when I walked in! Only did this one other time, but it was on the chair on top of 5 books!

2. Lake turned 4 on the 23rd!
3. Lake had his 4 year check-up - 39.5 lbs, in 70th percentile for height and weight. 2 shots and flu mist. Unfortunately, it caused him to have a fever over 101 at his birthday party but he played anyway!

4. We had a PIRATE PARTY! ARRRGHH!

the area for the "cannon ball" (water balloons) fight - which was really just throwing the balloons and watching them burst.

I didn't do justice in pictures to the sails that were hanging. I really wish I would have gotten one from directly underneath. My fabulous friend Melissa helped me hang these!

We had buried treasure in sand. The map actually did include what the treasure was they should dig for but it really was just a free for all!

fabulous Publix pirate ship cake! look at that happy smile top left!

In the picture above, they are giving their best "arrggghhh!" Apparently, they couldn't take a picture unless they were doing this.

5. We went to the beach!

We arrived during Tropical Storm Lee and it was crazy wind and rain Sunday and Monday. The water was up to the steps where you walk down to the beach! But by Tuesday, it was perfect. Low 80's, clear. The sandcastle I made above was promptly destroyed by King Kong Maddox :)

toddler bed time!

we had a little of this going on...

and a lot of jumping and hitting his chin on the rail when I put him down at night. so I decided to just convert the bed even though I had vowed to keep him in his crib until he was 3! He's been in since July 4th. We kept things pretty simple and still shut the door and it's seemed to have worked out so far. he stays in his bed when we put him down and in the morning, he gets out pretty much just to get books and stuff. We find him like this in the morning...

this boy loves his blankets and stuffed animals!

The Lakey Reel

conversation tonight with Lake:
(Lake pretending to fly and make whooshing sounds) "Lake, are you Superman? No. I'm a grandpire. A grandpire? What's that? Me."

Um, ok. maybe it's a mix between and grandpa and a vampire that flies? I'm thinking he heard the word vampire somewhere :)

We are now on our THIRD black eye. He fell climbing on the playground.

My little green-amber eyed boy! He definitely has Jeff's eye color.

what I like to call, The Lakey Reel! He's at least at the age where he'll let me take his picture again. Now, it's getting him to smile normal and not silly.

the teeth saga continued...

or maybe I should say it has come to an end? we've gone back and forth on whether to get partial teeth for the two Lake had to have extracted. Anyway, after some convincing from the dentist, she strongly recommended doing it for a few reasons. One in particular, kids may develop many habits during this part of their life including tongue thrust, which in itself could impact when his teeth do come and basically once they develop a habit, it's really hard to untrain the tongue. In other words, when you have a hole in your mouth for such a long period, you are likely to encounter some issues because of it. So, he has teeth!

Here's this sweet smile, and a few brotherly love pics as well! He's pretty handsome either way. I'm actually kind of missing the no teeth! But I guess I have it to look forward to in about 3 years!

backblogged...get it?

I've been quite a poor blogger lately...too busy. enjoy many backlogged posts below!

yum...and sweet

sewing, crafting, and more

I have quite a pile of stuff I've done that I want to post (so I can refer back if I ever want to do again) but I'm going to use pinterest for that. I love this site. great way to keep things in one place that you want to make, do, decorate, etc. I have bookmarks all over the place and can't ever find what I had bookmarked! come share with me!

I finally figured out how I wanted to keep the boys' stuff...art, hospital bands, etc. I covered albums in burlap and stenciled their names...I love them! it only took me 4 years to decide on something.

welcoming our new nephew...

introducing Cameron (Kevin's son)...about 3 months late...

look at this little love! I was lucky enough to take his newborn pictures (just 4 days old) and then snapped a few on Father's day (2 months) weekend when we got to see him again.

a little change

so, we changed preschools. long story, but our super convenient, used to be great preschool, well, isn't anymore. different owners, etc. anyway, we've been at the new school for a little over a month now and settling in. It's definitely better for the boys, just not as convenient for me. with Lake about to be in real pre-school in August, it became increasing important that we had a stable school environment. I guess it starts this early huh?

below are some pictures at the sprayground Maddox's last week of the old school.

Maddox @ 2!!

Maddox's check-up went great. He's saying many more words, but still not talking like crazy. He calls Lake either "Gake" or "Lakey". He LOVES puppies and "shoo shoo's" and "gunkeys" (monkeys) and "elphies" (elephants). though puppies only if they don't walk towards him. He has to approach them and then he's ok. otherwise, he climbs up me like a tree.

Stats
Height: 33.5 in
Weight: 26lbs
Head: 19 7/8ths

He and Lake are the best of friends. They can be LOUD...I say LOUD, when they get going. Nothing like screaming at the top of their lungs on the way to preschool and laughing about it...when mommy is barely awake...and not a morning person in the first place.
