Maddox - 13 months

- Maddox has teeth popping up everywhere. At least one molar coming through and at least two more side teeth coming through
- he walks well now and we bought our first pair of shoes recently - size 4.5
- still really no words. he understands a lot though
- he has curls... had curls. it was so long I could have really put in pig tails
- almost done with the bottle. he's been harder to transition than Lake. we are down to the morning bottle only.
- and still as sweet as always!

like little gloves... I took Lake to get his stitches out today and promised to take him to the store to get a toy. we got a ball and glove...

4 stitches

above Lake's eye... that's how our morning started off today. I hate when I see the preschool's number on my phone. He turned or fell into or something into a corner with hard plastic at the indoor playground. The teacher said it looked deep when it happened, but I knew I was in trouble when she asked if he'd had a previous injury that may have opened up! It is true that he's scraped/hit around his eyes a few times, but all a long time ago. I go to check on him and it doesn't look too bad, swollen, starting to bruise, but my pediatrician's nurse (we talk often it seems) asked if it's meeting at the ends, well, not really on one side.

I was so irritated that Children's urgent care doesn't open now until 11!! What??? and a few choice words... Anyway, the nurse recommended a place I'd been before. The nurse checks him and thinks he needs stitches and put some stuff on to numb it. I was really hoping it would be nothing. It looks so innocent. Come to find out from the doctor, that often happens after a little bit and it starts to come together some, but it's deceiving.

Lake's in my lap in the procedure room, the nurse holding his head, I've got his arms and legs (with my leg)and he goes to stitch and Lake freaks. I promise him everything in the world, ice cream, lollipop, you name it. But we get through it. While stitching, I can see from behind it splits right open when he starts and he even comments that it definitely needed them.

Lake seems fine, hopefully he will heal with little scarring and most of all, it was minor in the long run. But I'd be happy if we'd stop having these incidents...

A whole new baby

Maddox has done great with the tubes! He had his one year shots last Friday and we were going to do allergy testing too, but ended up not having to. He has his worst case of Ezcema about a week before. Bright red, all over, really bad. Anyway, my remedy? Take a soaking wet baby, put on Cetaphil creme, and cover with Aquaphor! Now, this may not be the most appealing process, but after two days, it was sooo much better! Then I bought some Cheeky Baby Butter to try and love it too.

At his appointment, the doctor was amazed at how clear his skin was given just a week earlier, she saw it at its worst. She also noted how happy he seemed. From tubes? clear skin? who knows. but he was pretty happy

On a side note, I think I'm going to paint some more of the kids as well. I had fun doing the two in the previous post. I had some lessons learned too so I must try again! :)

couldn't resist posting this. Lake walked Maddox around the room like 5 times. it was so sweet.

A funny Lake story, he was up this morning while I was still in bed and he said he was going to put his dress clothes on. He took all of his clothes off and I found him in pants and a dirty shirt both on backwards. No underwear.

surgery went great. maddox's right ear was pretty infected so I'm sure he feels much better now! we've been sleeping all day since we had to be at Children's at 6:20! yuck... anyway, we are up and at 'em now. maddox is playing away. since it was done at both an in/out-patient place, we didn't get to go back with him when they put him under like with Lake, but it was super quick and saw him in no time.

Maddox will be having surgery on Monday to get tubes. He's working on his 11th (I think) ear infection now since December. I hope he has the same success Lake did once he gets them. I hate the surgery part though. I don't like having to put him under anesthesia. It makes me a very nervous mommy...

but he can dance! we often have a little dance party in our living room. Lake was a crazy dancer two nights ago. he makes me laugh. I love this little guy

I cannot believe it...

Lake was being super fussy because he needed a nap and I told him to go upstairs and get in the bed because he needed one. Of course, thinking I'm just hearing myself talk. While I'm finishing feeding Maddox, I hear him cry all the way up the stairs, I go turn on the video monitor and see him getting in his bed...still crying. that was about 10 minutes ago. He's asleep now...

I'm amazed.

You can't hear Maddox babbling but he was too. I don't know what this song is or what he is saying, but it's the second day he's been singing it... a little off key :)

Maddox's Birthday

We celebrated on Maddox’s actual birthday too…cake was popular again.

Checkup:
- Height: 29 ¼
- Weight: 21 lbs, 11 oz
- We have to go back for shots since he was running fever with double ear infections

12 things about Maddox at 12 months
1. He has 7 teeth now
2. He’s walking (since 5/17) – 11.5 months
3. If he's upset in the car, singing calms him down. This never did with Lake.
4. He waves backwards which is adorable.
5. He started whole milk on the 29th. Still likes it warm though…we are working on this and the sippy too.
6. He swings his arms when he dances.
7. He “talks” with different sounds, but no real words yet. He says dada, but I don’t think he’s put it together with Jeff yet.
8. You can often find him chewing on his blanket in his crib. He loves those things and they make good teethers!
9. He loves splashing in the tub – what kid doesn’t? But you basically need a swimsuit at bath time now!
10. He and Lake can crack each other up about nothing. They make each other giggle and laugh a lot! I love watching them interact! They are both pretty loving to each other…right now
11. Everyone says he and Lake look just alike. I don’t see it. They are so different to me. The hair, their build, even their teeth!
12. He is so affectionate. He comes to you and just lays his head on you. Give lots of kisses too!

I love you so much sweet baby! I can’t believe you are already 1! I’m so thankful for both you and Lake. Y’all bring us such joy and happiness!

I posted many updates below tonight...maybe I'm caught up now.

Callaway Gardens/ Wild Animal Safari

After Maddox’s birthday party, we went to Callaway Gardens with Jeff’s parents. I was imagining all of these flowers, etc., but we clearly were there in the off season. It was still really pretty and we had a fun time in the butterfly house.







Additionally, we went to the Wild Animal Safari near Callaway. You drive through this area and feed the animals. We opted to drive our own car and I’m not sure that was the best decision. Lake sat in my lap, we had our animal food, and as we first entered, um, we were surrounded by reindeer. These animals are not afraid. We rolled down our window a little to try to throw food, but these guys stick their snouts in your car. It was a little nuts. We finally made it through the welcoming reindeer and on to see deer, pigs, etc. We had some crazy deer jump up on the car, but no damage. We were told you can’t feed the zebras and ostriches from your hand so you had to throw food to them. However, it was a race to roll the window down and throw it before those crazy ostriches got to your car! Zebras too! Now on to the giraffe! While these guys were still gated, they can get to your window with their long necks. Jeff basically had a giraffe head in his lap feeding it. I’m not exaggerating! Then through the buffaloes, enormous steer, etc. It was quite an experience. I was too busy making sure we didn’t leave the window down to video or take pictures!

Big Birthday Post

I had planned Maddox’s party for the weekend before since his birthday falls on Memorial day weekend. Long story short, we ended up having a small, but fun little party for him. He loved his cake and had a great time! Pics/videos below…

Maddox took his first steps on 5/17. He stood up on his own and took about 2.5 steps to me! Since then he’s still learning and going further and further. Here’s a video of him walking to our friend Lee at his birthday party.

I picked up Lake from school about a month ago from the playground and to my surprise, he was swinging on his own! I have no idea how this compares to others and don’t care, but I was so surprised. The teachers say only about 4 can do it and they fight over the swing everyday! They said Lake is always the first in line and gets to the swing first.



Some other things about Lake right now:
• He comes to our room between 5 and 6 every morning asking to go potty and has been for a while. It’s brutal. I’m going to have to start going to bed at 9. He either wants to play or will toss/turn/sit-up or talk to himself when we put him in the bed
• When he gets in trouble, he likes to say that either mommy or daddy hurt him. While funny inside our house, I’m just hoping we don’t get DEFACS called on us!
• We get scolded now by him. “No screaming” – again, when we aren’t screaming but he’s in trouble.
• Peeing in public is a bit of a challenge. Does every mom of boys have to hold them over the toilet since there is no stool? Am I missing some trick to make this less awkward?
• He has many bedtime delay tactics. Hug me, kiss me, cover me, I want to sleep on the couch. If we lie with him for a few minutes, if you try to get up, he gently pushes your head back down and tells you to lay down. We go through stages where he cooperates at bedtime then everything switches again.
• He's in a bit of a Thomas the Train craze right now. No idea where he learned of Thomas. We had never watched it at our house.
• I love to hear him “read” his books like Panda Bear, Panda Bear.
• He remembers everything!
